Selmer 807 Gypsy Jazz Template
The Selmer Maccaferri guitar is a legendary instrument known for its role in shaping the "gypsy jazz" sound, most famously associated with Django Reinhardt.
The Selmer 807 guitar, designed by François Charle and often called the "Petite Bouche" or "small mouth" guitar due to its distinctive oval soundhole, it features a heat-pressed "pliage" (pleat or bend) under the bridge, which enhances volume and responsiveness and which, along with a 670mm scale length gives the Selmer 807 its renowned loud, bright tone and quick attack.
The Selmer 807 is sometimes compared to Django Reinhardt’s famous Selmer 503, though they have subtle structural differences, such as the bracing configuration. Our templates are designed taking account of the original François Charle design and additional information from Michael Collins excellent book "Building a Selmer Maccaferri Guitar". One aspect of the original is the complex neck/headstock mortice and tenon joint. We have provided the tenon extension on the headstock template however we have not attempted to template the complete joint due to its complexity. Furthermore having built a few ourselves, we believe that a conventional scarf joint works perfectly well.
